National Truck Driving Championships start in Louisiana

The National Truck Driving Championships start March 29, 2019 in Louisiana, kicking off the five-month-long season. All states follow the same basic guidelines set by the American Trucking Associations; although each state runs the competition slightly differently.

Executive Director of Safety Management Council and Transportation Security Council, Jacob Pierce, said, “ATA provides the rules, study materials, and paperwork, but has minimal involvement in organizations of the state championships.”

Drivers with the highest overall scores will move on to the national competition.

Pierce said, “There are 480 available points based on the rules, but course problems, pre-trip defects, and written exam questions are developed by the state.”

Attendance also varies from state-to-state according to Pierce; some states have hundreds of drivers turn out, while others have a much smaller talent pool to draw from.

Jacob Pierce is the American Trucking Association’s liaison for NTDC.

To qualify for state TDC, truckers must have a safe driving record and have to of been employed by the same company for that year.
