Flooding closes I-10 at Louisiana-Texas Line

Interstate 10 in Texas and Louisiana was closed in both directions Tuesday, March 15, because of continued flooding from the Sabine River. The interstate reopened later Tuesday, but officials warned drivers to avoid I-10 because flooding could force the interstate to be shut down again.

Earlier reports indicated that I-10 would be closed for at least two days, according to The Weather Channel.

About 5,000 homes in Louisiana were damaged by flooding, and the National Guard evacuated more than 4,200 people and hundreds of pets. At least four fatalities in Louisiana were blamed on the floods.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster in nearly 20 counties.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, motorists eastbound to Louisiana should use I-20 as an alternate route.
