Nearly two years after Anne Ferro stepped down as the head of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the agency finally has a new administrator. The United States Senate confirmed President Obama’s nomination of T. F. Scott Darling last week.
Darling served as the general counsel for FMCSA before he took the role of interim administrator in August 2014 following Ferro’s resignation. Under his leadership, FMCSA has continued Ferro’s legacy of holding strong to the Compliance, Safety, Accountability program, as well as its defense of post-2013 hours of service regulations. However, Darling’s rhetoric, when he chooses to appear publicly, has lacked Ferro’s harsh anti-trucking tone. For the most part, he has left public comments to Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx.
“I am pleased that the Senate confirmed Scott Darling to be the next administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration,” said Foxx. “He goes the extra mile to engage actively and personally with the agency’s stakeholders. His collaborative approach has moved the ball forward on commercial motor vehicle safety.”
