Scam alert

Trucking companies are being warned of scams that are asking them for money to file their DOT biennial update.

On Friday, August 30, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation issued an alert and the FMCSA also posted to Facebook reminding truck drivers of the misleading and fraudulent marketing.

WisDOT says companies and websites that want drivers to pay are not associated with the U.S. Department of Transportation or the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. The fraudulent letters and emails also include threats or fines for failure to pay.

WisDOT and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration state that while trucking companies have to renew their USDOT number with the FMCSA every two years, filing can be done for free on the FMCSA website.
