TCA Recognizes Highway Angels

Two truckers have been recognized as Highway Angels by the Truckload Carriers Association after they drove nearly an hour to rescue a stranded colleague.

Shannon Currier, director of philanthropy and development for the St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund, ran over a nail that resulted in her being stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire.

Currier called her AAA insurance only to find that her coverage had lapsed.

She called a fellow trucker, Scott Wagner, who without hesitation grabbed his friend, Robert Barnette, and drove nearly 40 miles to aid Currier.

“Scott and Robert knew the danger I was in being a female out there alone,” Currier said. “I don’t know how long I would have had to sit on the side of the road waiting for help or waiting for our AAA to be reinstated and then for a driver to come help me.”

Wagner and Barnette quickly changed the tire and also, went to Walmart with Currier to buy a new tire. “They stayed with me for another two hours while we waited for the new tire,” Currier said.

For their immediate willingness to help the TCA presented both Wagner and Barnette with the Highway Angels Award.
