Trucker Saves Pit Bull From Death

Trucker, Mario Rodriquez, was making a delivery in California when he decided to go save a pit bull named Hickory from being euthanized in New York City.

The dog was initially brought to his attention by a text from his wife. Mario clicked on the link to the adoption centre listing and knew he had to save the dog.

“I started reading everything and just the look on his face was like I connected with him immediately,” Rodriguez said as he spoke on his initial reaction. “When I saw that he was going to be euthanized, something was telling me ‘Just go!’”

Rodriquez was nowhere near New York but he was determined to go the extra miles and save Hickory.

Mario called his boss and asked for a delivery route to New York. His boss obliged and then began the 2,800-mile drive to rescue Hickory. Rodriquez kept calling the Animal Care Centers of NYC, where Hickory was held, saying, “Do not put him down. I’m on my way over there.”
